Oh, the prospects and excitement of moving are just wonderful. Perhaps you just received the word that your job is transferring you to a new location to help open a new office. Maybe you just graduated college and your first job is clear across the country. You may be moving just for a change of scenery. The reason really does not matter, you need to get see new places and meet new people, but first you have to get there.
Moving can be stressful and chaotic; however, if you use some of these simple tips, you can make the process much smoother. First, make a moving checklist of all of the steps that you will need to complete.
One of the first things you will need to do is contact some long distance movers. You should ensure that they have the proper licensing and equipment for your move. You want to make sure that your household arrives at its new location undamaged.
Clear out and get rid of things you do not need to move. This may be tools, dishes and other household items that you just do not want to move. Hold a garage or yard sale or donate these items to charity. Remember that the less you have to move, the lower the cost will be.
Make sure you have scheduled utility shut off and turn on. When moving, you should have the utilities turned off at your old home a day after you leave. The utilities at your new place should be turned on a couple of days prior to your arrival. That way you will not have to be moving in without lights or water.
Consider using a pods system to make moving easier. You will be able to pack on your on schedule. You pack up that pod and then the movers come and pick it up. This can essentially save you some money by doing the packing yourself.
